Planning For Your Hunt
Entry to Canada
Passports:
As of January 1, 2008 all Non-Canadians coming to Canada must have a passport.
Customs - Border Crossing
Bring a copy of your hunt contract when you enter Canada, Canada Customs may ask for this. All non-Canadians coming to Canada from other countries must comply with Canadian immigration rules and regulations regarding legal admission to Canada regardless of intention or reason for coming to Canada.
It is your responsibility to make sure you will be granted entry into Canada. Refusal of entry by Canada Customs and Immigration is not sufficient reason for a refund.
Hunting License Information
Wildlife Identification Number (WIN)
WIN is required to purchase hunting and sportfishing licenses in Alberta. A WIN number is valid for five years from the date of purchase. Click here to complete the online application and purchase the WIN card. Upon submission, a WIN card with your WIN number on it will be mailed to you. Be sure you give yourself enough time to receive your card before you arrive for your hunt.
If you have hunted in Alberta in the past 5 years and already have a WIN card, please be sure to bring it with you. If you can't find your card, you can log into the Relm website and reprint it at anytime.
For additional help, contact the RELM help desk at 1-888-944-5494 from the hours of 6:00am to midnight (MT), 7 days a week.
*A WIN card must be carried with you on your hunt. If you do not receive your card prior to the hunt you can register after your arrival.
Bringing your Firearm Across the Border
The Canada Border Services Agency controls firearms imports.
As a general rule, you are not allowed to carry handguns for self-protection in Canada. Non-residents can usually bring a non-restricted rifle or shotgun into Canada for approved purposes such as hunting, target shooting, wilderness protection or in-transit movement by a reasonably direct route to another point outside Canada.
If you want to bring a firearm into Canada, you must follow the laws of
